Its hard to believe that it's been 6 years since I started this group.

at the time, it was the only group of its kind and now it's got hundreds of quality usable flats for Beginners and advanced colorists alike. I'm Proud of this group, I started it because it was a resource I would have loved to have when I was starting out, and I've seen it help so many aspiring colorists to improve their technique and helped flatters to find paying work, its an awesome thing to share in something like this.

I do not take much of the credit though, after all I just got the ball rolling, it was all the hard working contributors who over the years have made this little group the huge resource that it is today.

I've been MIA a lot lately as I use Deviant art less and less. but I thought I'd pop in and be sentimental.
Hey everyone,

Just a quick journal to let you know that the long out of print HiFi Color for Comics instructional book is Being re-released again through a Kickstarter campaign!

Brian and Kristy Miller managed to get the rights back for the book from the original publisher and have been in the process of updating all of the existing content and putting together lots of new stuff for the modern age of comic book coloring. so even if you have the original book this will be fantastic as a resource and it will only get better the more we support it, check out the stretch goals and rewards.

spread the word and try your best to help in any way you can. it would be a great investment to the whole industry.

a shout out to :iconfableimpact: & :iconrosshughes: for bringing this to my attention.
You can read all the tutorials you like, but the best way of learning to flat is if you can get someone to teach you personally. Obviously this isn't an advantage everyone can have, but thanks to one of our members, you can now take advantage of the next best thing - watching an experienced flatter at work.

FFC contributor :icontrinitymathews: will be livestreaming tonight at 7pm CST (CST = GMT-5) - head along if you can and see what you can pick up.

:iconjotazombie:, one of our contributors, has suggested writing up a wee article as a sort of guide for working as a flatter. Eddy & I thought this was a great idea, so we figured we'd put a shout out to you guys to see if there's anything in particular you'd like to know about. We're already planning on including stuff about pricing and dealing with colourists, but if anyone has any other questions, drop a comment here and we'll try to include it in the article.
We just got a request for an emergency flatter. Colourist Luis Ochoa has a need for a flatter to help out with around 15 pages. It'll be a paying gig, but he is looking for a reasonable rate, so be nice. If any of you are interested, you can check out his journal for some more info ...
